In terms of safety, one important thing to know about carrier oils in skin care products is that people with nut allergies should avoid carrier oils from nut products, just to be safe. Pure nut oils do not contain the allergenic proteinaceous part of the nut, but there is always the risk of cross contamination. Potential carrier oils from nut oils include walnut oil, macadamia nut oil, pecan oil, peanut oil, and fractionated coconut oil. Also, if there is the chance that the product would be ingested, then mineral oil should not be used as a carrier oil since it can be toxic.
